Computers are used as control systems for a wide variety of industrial and consumer devices. Early computers were only conceived as calculating devices. Since ancient times, simple manual devices like the abacus aided people in doing calculations. Hardware includes the physical parts or components of a computer, such as the central processing unit, monitor, keyboard, computer data storage, graphic card, sound card and motherboard. By contrast, software is instructions that can be stored and run by hardware.
Hardware is directed by the software to execute any command or instruction. A combination of hardware and software forms a usable computing system.
Software is a generic term that refers to a collection of data or computer instructions that tell the computer how to work, in contrast to the physical hardware from which the system is built, that actually performs the work. In computer science and software engineering, computer software is all information processed by computer systems, programs and data. Computer software includes computer programs, libraries and related non-executable data, such as online documentation or digital media. Computer hardware and software require each other and neither can be realistically used on its own.
All three elements above must be related to each other and form a unity to execute the instructions given. Hardware will not work when there is no software that drives it. Neither software will mean anything when there is no hardware. In order for hardware and software to run as expected then there must be brainware or humans who operate it. In conclusion these three elements must have a mutually beneficial relationship (symbiosis mutualism) so that a computer system can produce information and data needed.
